It's the season to spread a little joy! I am very excited to announce that I will be partnering with the Salvation Army Kroc Center this holiday season! Their goal this year is to collect 7,000 toys for 700 children here in San Diego. My goal is to help them get there by spreading the word about their upcoming Toy And Joy Workshop. They are looking for toy and food donations by December 11th. You can also drop off donations at our Creative Tribe Holiday Mixer at Hera Hub on December 13th. Get all the details below!
I had the pleasure of visiting and volunteering at the Salvation Army Kroc Center yesterday. They are just getting everything dialed in to create the Toy And Joy event. I helped to create food boxes that will go to each family that participates in the event. The Toy And Joy event is for low income families who applied for Christmas aid through the Kroc Center. The community donates toys and food items to help support these families. Volunteers help sort donations and set up the workshop. They also assist parents as they attend the event. Each family will receive about 10 toys per child and a food box with about 30 items.
Toy & Joy Donations Needed:
Toys for kids ages 0-2 and 10-12
Stuffed Animals
Wrapping Paper
Diapers
Wipes
Non-Perishable Food Items
Canned Food: Soup, Chili, Beans, Veggies, Tomato Sauce, Fruit, Chicken, Tuna
Grains: Pasta, Rice, Quinoa
Other Items: Cereal, Pancake Mix, Peanut Butter, Jelly
Each food box holds about 30 items. If you have any non-perishable food items or would like to purchase some, please consider donating this year.
Any donations of food or toys will be used. If their goals are exceeded they will add families to the event.
The Salvation Army Kroc Center also receives donations from organizations that will sometimes donate larger items like bikes for the kids. These are called the dream items and are given out based on several factors.
The Salvation Army Kroc Center's mission is to meet human needs through God without discrimination. The facility is a place to gather and connect. It is open to the general public and they offer a variety of programs for all ages. I felt a sense of community from the moment I arrived. They offer everything from gym classes to gymnastics, dance, music lessons, preschool, hockey and they even have ice skating. I really hope they can reach their goals this year and provide 700 children with some holiday joy!
