If you're wondering what we've been up to, we've been soaking up this summer. 2020 has been the weirdest year of all time, but we are still making the best of the situation (as much as we can). Take me to the beach or bay is all I've been focused on this last few weeks. I've always been a fan of beach days but they are so much more appreciated now. We spent 5 nights beach camping at Carlsbad State Beach and it made for the best days. Coffee over the ocean, walks along the sand, kids playing in the ocean, BBQ's everyday, quality time with family and some peace.
For the Love of the Beach or Bay
The first few months of quarantine, when we were at home everyday was tough. Really tough. Mark was working out of town for the first 6 or so weeks. I was home with the kids trying to distance learn, work, function, FaceTime as much as possible with family, etc. Those days were so weird, and depressing. Over the last few weeks, I've found a love for daily walks, bike rides, hikes and playtime in the ocean. I had to step away from watching the news constantly, waiting and not experiencing much joy. I needed a new focus, or a reset, or whatever you want to call it. I needed life.
Aside from our beach camping trip, we've gone to the beach or bay at any possible moment too. I've found an amazing little spot behind the Bahia called Bahia Point. My daily focus has turned more into where I can get movement, where the kids can play and what will fill us with more joy.
The kids love the ocean for the waves but also enjoy the calm of the bay. I'm a fan of both too and have enjoyed spending more time near the water.
What's in the Beach Bag?
My newest beach bag from Alo Yoga is perfect for packing up my favorite Mexican blanket from Cabo, this awesome sand free towel from Tesalate, the kids hoodie towels from Costco and my beautiful new kimono from Style Your Life. We pack up the kids beach toys, grab my beach bag, a cooler with drinks and snacks, then we head to the water.
Now that the kids are older, it's a bit easier to pack for a beach day. I've also been enjoying going for a half day if we have other things going on for the day.
One morning, I was completely out of coffee creamer, so we headed to Starbucks early then went straight to the bay. The mornings can be a little cloudy but I don't mind the coverage for a while. I love to see when the sun peaks out though!
Mark has been off work for the last few months. We are so grateful that we've been able to enjoy some time home together during all of this craziness. He goes back to work soon but we will be getting in as many of these fun filled adventure days before he does!
This summer has definitely been different. How have you been spending your days? I hope you've had some time to explore and enjoy being outside. What's your favorite beach or bay spot? xo, Bri
