The cravings for anything sweet are enormous these days. I cannot get enough juice, cookies, donuts and ice cream. This does not help my goals of not gaining nearly as much weight as I did during my last pregnancy. (Too much to note). So I have been coming up with different ways of fulfilling my cravings while getting in the proper nutrition. This Protein Packed Mango Smoothie definitely hits the spot! And it's healthier than a bowl of cookie dough ice cream.
My biggest cravings this pregnancy have been eggs, milk, orange juice, cookies and cookie dough ice cream. Which really isn't all too bad. I am feeling good about my weight gain this time around (so far) too. I do get a little sick of the same flavors though so I've been noshing on a lot of mangos and came up with this delicious smoothie.
The best thing about smoothies is that they are super easy to make. Once you figure out the ratios of ingredients you got yourself a tasty drink. I received some Soy Protein powder from Bob's Red Mill and have been adding it to my smoothies ever since. It is an awesome way to add protein to your smoothies for a little extra boost of nutrition.
To make the protein packed mango dreamsicle you must first cut up a mango. This can be a bit tricky. I start by cutting off the skin and then I slice around the seed for thin slices of mango. The rest is easy peasy - just gather your ingredients: OJ, Vanilla Ice Cream and Soy Protein Powder and put in your blender. The recipe below is for one small serving. This is just enough for a small smoothie and relieves my cravings. It also totally fills me up for an afternoon snack. You can easily double the recipe for a large smoothie. Enjoy!
