I love trying different types of food and one of my latest favorites is Peruvian. We've tried out Coya Peruvian Secret in Del Mar and have had some amazing meals at their restaurant. This spot has fresh seafood options in addition to hearty meat dishes. Their authentic flavors and ingredients come across in every dish. Some of our favorites include the Pisco Sour cocktail, the ceviche and the squid ink risotto with mahi mahi.
The Appetizers
Coya Peruvian has a variety of appetizers. For a staple, try the empanada. The ceviches are a must try. They have the clasico which includes the catch or the day with red onions and yams. They also have the mix which includes the catch of the day with shrimp, scallops, mussels and calamari. We've also tried the octopus appetizer which is red wine braised and served with spinach, roasted potatoes and kalamata olives.
The Drinks
Coya Peruvian serves beer, wine, and other beverages. They also serve a delicious Pisco Sour, made with tequila, fresh squeezed lime, bitters, egg white and simple syrup. They have a few sangrias, micheladas and bubbly drinks.
The Main Dishes
Coya has salads available, like the roasted beet or the Peruvian salad made with mixed greens, tomatoes, avocado, hearts of palm and mozzarella. You can add veggies, chicken, shrimp, mahi mahi or filet mignon to any salad.
There are a variety of meats, pastas and seafood options. Our fav entree is the Squid Ink Risotto with Mahi Mahi, pictured above. We also really enjoyed the Lamb Stew made with grass fed lamb from New Zealand, green peas, carrots, bell peppers and served with garlic rice. The short Rib, pork belly, half roasted chicken, lobster ravioli, salmon and Chaufa de Mariscos also sound really good!
Desserts
Don’t skip dessert! They have several delicious desserts and hot drinks available. They have a vegan chocolate bread pudding, Flan, cuatro Leches cake and homemade alfajor. Our favorite was the Gluten Free Lucuma Flan made with a Peruvian Lucuma super fruit, quinoa pop and fresh strawberries.
Coya Peruvian is in Del Mar with beautiful ambiance and fantastic service. Watch the video of our visit on Instagram.
