It's so nice to see restaurants and people out and about again! Mark and I enjoyed an awesome date night in Little Italy this week. This must try Italian coastal fare in Little Italy is Allegro. From the creators at San Diego Dining Group, their latest restaurant is an experience you'll want to visit time and time again. The beautiful ambiance consists of an eclectic lemon covered patio ceiling, servers in emerald velvet vests and a beautiful marble bar. The specialty craft cocktails are super fun with all sorts of options and even a drink served over dry ice with 24K edible gold! The delicious Italian Seafood dishes range from Spanish octopus to oysters carbonara and ciopinno.
Dining at Allegro in Little Italy
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Allegro starting with a couple of appetizers. My absolute favorite was the Spanish octopus served with fingerling potatoes, roasted tomatoes, black olives and capers. We also tried the steak tartare which was surprisingly (to me) very tasty. I was a little hesitant since I don't believe I've ever tried this dish. The flavors were very good. I could taste the lime and fresh herbs.
We started off with cocktails too. Mark had the Farmer's Martini made with Grey Goose vodka, homemade pear & ginger mix, simple syrup, served with pecorino cheese. My favorite drink of the night, The Mexican Widow is made with Don Julio Blanco, Ancho Reyes Rojo liqueur, fresh pineapple, mango, lime, agave, infused with coconut charcoal, topped with 24K edible gold flakes served over dry ice with rose pedals! The photo below does not do it justice but you can watch the video here.
We shared two entrees and I enjoyed both of them thoroughly. The shrimp and fava bean pasta is made with mushrooms and a creamy sauce. Next, we enjoyed the scallops which were so big and cooked to perfection. The scallops are served on a bed of mashed potatoes and a sweet creamy gravy that paired very well together.
We had a great first visit to Allegro and I can't want to head back again soon. We were hosted by the amazing chef and team at Allegro. If you visit, be sure to ask for Baran for awesome service. You can also ask chef Marco what he recommends for the evening. Their menu is dialed in and they have special options available upon request.
