Smoothies have been a fan favorite in our house since the kids were toddlers. If you recall our Toddler Approved Spinach Smoothie and our Wild Blueberry & Pineapple Smoothie. Today's recipe is for a Strawberry + Wild Blueberry smoothie that your whole family will love. This one also includes banana for that delicious creaminess everyone enjoys. I also like to use wild blueberries because they have greater antioxidants and a richer taste than regular blueberries. I purchase these frozen so I don't need to use added ice in this recipe. You can also use frozen bananas or strawberries but we used fresh. Smoothies are really easy to get the kids making early on and a fun thing they can mix up with different fruits.
Kids Making Smoothies
The kids started making their own smoothies together a few months ago. Now that James is 4 he has really shown an interest in helping out in the kitchen and learning how to make different things. Kyla has always been a fan of helping out in the kitchen and she's learning more advanced cooking like using the stove and cutting with a knife. Smoothies are pretty straight forward but they still enjoy mixing the ingredients and holding the blender down.
Ingredients and Measurements
For this kind of recipe, you could have the kids get the ingredients out themselves and measure each item. This will help them learn measurements and understand where each ingredient is kept in the house.
Add in Greens
Smoothies are a great way to get kids to eat greens. I know that can be a struggle for some parents. You can always add that in when they aren't looking or blend it with the blueberries before they add the other ingredients. 😉
James seriously loves making food now. His excitement, dancing and overall joy in the kitchen is so fun to watch. See below for the Strawberry + Wild Blueberry Smoothies recipe!
