Mark and I recently got a taste of the sweet life at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. A stay at the newly renovated hotel was just what we needed before the rush of the holidays. We enjoyed a one night stay curtesy of the hotel so we could check out all the new offerings and accommodations. The interior of the hotel is absolutely beautiful and perfect for business or travel.
We visited the hotel about a week before Christmas. The hotel was very festive with lights, ornaments and even a giant tree. We headed to our room to check it out before venturing out for dinner. The room was very spacious and really well laid out. I took a few panoramic shots (above) so you could see the amount of space.
The bathroom had an awesome glass door and all the luxories of a nice hotel. My favorite part of the new look is the color scheme. I love the neutral greys mixed with hints of blue and subtle pops of orange. The variations of textures really make the room feel comforting and modern.
The location of the Hyatt Regency La Jolla is pretty great for business and travelers alike. It is located right near UTC yet it feels so private. The shot below was right out of our hotel room. Directly across the street is a strip of four top-notch restaurants. We initially considered driving somewhere to dinner but realized there was so much right here at the hotel. The restaurants across the way are Cafe Japengo, Flemmings, The Melting Pot and Truluck's (all good for different reasons).
We went to Cafe Japengo for appetizers and drinks. Mark had a couple sculpins while I enjoyed my soda water. My pregnancy cravings insisted that we try the truffle nori french fries - an excellent choice. We also enjoyed the crunchy roll. It was so nice to get a taste of sushi without the raw fish.
We went to Truluck's for a couple more appetizers. We had the mussels and lobster bisque. The bartender made me a delicious virgin mojito. YUM! I really enjoyed the live music and ambiance. We headed back to the hotel to relax. Mark grabbed a sculpin at Michael's, the hotel lounge and I picked up a decaf coffee at Perks. We wandered around the hotel and stumbled across a big open space of lounge chairs and fire pits. We stayed there for a bit and soaked it all in.
As we headed back to the room I noticed the hotel offer's fresh cucumber mint water, whole grain crackers AND christmas cookies! How fun!
When we got to the room, I was pleasantly surprised by the cheese and snack plate the hotel left as a thank you for joining them. I love when businesses go the extra step in welcoming their guests.
We slept amazingly in the giant king bed. The next morning we headed to the Barcino Grill for their breakfast buffet. The buffet was stocked with all the essentials to a tasty breakfast. I was also very happy to find blueberry apple crisp, lemon bars + a deli and cheese bar.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. We would go back again in a second. We felt like we were in a completely different place yet so close to home. Staycations are becoming some of my favorite trips! Where have you stayed in San Diego?
We received a one night stay at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, appetizers at Cafe Japengo and breakfast for media consideration. All opinions are my own.

Considering going there for family vacation this summer. How close to the beach is it?
BriGeeski says
Hi Bill, It is about 3 miles from the beach. It probably takes about 10 minutes to drive there with traffic. Enjoy your trip!
