We had the most amazing stay at Velas Vallarta, an all inclusive in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. This resort was especially awesome because of the location, their hospitality, the stunning sunset views, the spacious rooms and delicious restaurant options. We were hosted at the resort during a press trip so we were able to see a lot of what the location has to offer. We are already planning a trip back because it was that memorable and we want to bring the family!
Getting to the All Inclusive Resort
Flights are under three hours from San Diego or Tijuana to Puerto Vallarta. The resort is less than a 10 minute drive from the airport, making this an excellent destination for families. We crossed over Cross Border Express (CBX) from San Diego to Tijuana and took a Volaris flight direct to Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). There are also direct flights from most major airports. We had a taxi service set up through the Velas Vallarta resort. We walked out to VIP Services (the ladies in the fuchsia shirts) and got in a taxi within a few minutes of arrival. Traveling to Puerto Vallarta from San Diego was a breeze!
Puerto Vallarta Climate
Puerto Vallarta is a warm and tropical destination. The typical weather is in the 80's in the daytime and 60's in the evening. They do have a rainy season from June to September but it's typically not bad. Puerto Vallarta is on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, which is probably why I loved it so much. I love that they have tropical plants similar to Maui and every day felt warm while we were there in the end of January and the beginning of February.
The Rooms at Velas Vallarta Resort
The rooms at Velas Vallarta are all very spacious. Starting with their deluxe studio, which accommodates 2-4 people. The studios have an open living space with one bed, a pull out couch, kitchenette and daily stocked mini bar. We stayed in their one bedroom suite which had a very spacious living room, dining room, full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. We toured the other suite options and they are all very nice, spacious and have amazing views. Each room has a patio with a furnished terrace.
Food and Drink Options at the All Inclusive Resort
There are several food and drink options at Velas Vallarta. There are currently 2 restaurants with a third option opening soon. La Ribera is their beachfront and more casual restaurant. The Andrea serves a more elevated menu and you'll need to make reservations before arrival. Velas also has a creperie in the lobby, a pool snack bar and room service available around the clock. For drinks, there's a swim up pool bar, a pop-up mixologist bar and a bar available at La Ribera. Everything is included with the room fee, however, they do have fun add-ons if you'd like to elevate your experience even further.
Teepee Dinner Experience on the Beach
Velas Vallarta has a few additional dining and entertainment experiences that are not included in the all inclusive package. One of these is the Teepee dinner on the beach experience. The teepee is right in front of the resort between the pool and the ocean. The staff uses the teepees for a variety of special occasions and events. They even had a wedding while we were there. They also have experiences on the Jetty available. We enjoyed a delicious smokey mezcal cocktail served with a Mahi Mahi and ratatouille couscous and finished with a coconut lemon dessert. It was a beautiful way to start our vacation right on the water!
Activities at an All Inclusive Resort
One of the best parts about going on vacation is being able to lounge, relax, eat and explore. I love that Velas Vallarta has so many options on places to explore as well as fun leisurely activities to do at the resort. If you'd like to explore the area, you can use their shuttle or taxi service available in front of the lobby. Places to explore include El Malecon boardwalk, the Charreria experience at Arena Vallarta Hacienda Serena, Los Arcos and the cobblestone district of historic downtown Puerto Vallarta. Daily activities included at the resort offer Calvera painting, dancing shows, yoga, walking tours, volleyball, casino nights, karaoke, Spanish classes, arts and crafts. The day spa is also amazing, ask for Maria!
Nightlife in Puerto Vallarta
There are plenty of things to do right at Velas Vallarta in the evening. The first thing you're going to want to do is catch the sunset. Some of the most beautiful sunset's we've seen were right here. I love to see the pool and ocean views as the sun sets for the day. Next, you're going to want to grab dinner. On top of the 2 restaurants on site, there is also Tao Beach Club, just a short walk down the road. We had a delicious steak and lobster dinner overlooking the ocean. They even had a magician, who blew us away with his magic card tricks. If you're looking for dancing, I highly recommend La Bodeguita del Medio Vallarta. They had an awesome live cuban band playing salsa music.
The Kids Club at Velas Vallarta
The Kids Club at Velas Vallarta is located right by the 3 pools. I love that they have a playground right outside and it's nearby so parents could go check on their kids at anytime. There is a room with a kitchenette, space for lounging and an area for arts and crafts. They also have an outdoor space for doing activities, watching shows and playing in the grass. Frozen characters danced to songs from the movie as they put on a show for the kids.
We seriously can not wait to go back. We had the most epic stay at Velas Vallarta. If you have any questions about the resort or our stay, please post in the comments below.
